pH-neutral car shampoo concentrate with lychee scent, LSP safe

Shampoo-Teufel is TUGA Chemie's pH-neutral car shampoo concentrate (pH 7.0-7.5) with a lychee scent. Synergistic surfactant blend (anionic + non-ionic + amphoteric), 1-methoxy-2-propanol enhances cleaning performance without alkalinity, phosphonates prevent limescale soap formation. No active gloss enhancers — the shine comes from deep-pore cleaning, not from wax additives. Explicitly LSP-safe for carnauba and ceramic coatings. Highest substrate compatibility.

Foam Lance: 50 ml concentrate to 1 liter distilled water, apply with compressed air lance. Hand wash: 25-30 ml to 10 liters warm water in a bucket. Work with a microfiber wash mitt in straight lines — never in circles (swirl marks). Two-bucket system: shampoo bucket + clear water bucket for mitt cleaning. Rinse thoroughly with clear water until no residue remains. Be especially thorough on ceramic-coated vehicles. Store frost-free, lasts 24 months after opening.

pH-neutral car shampoo: Shampoo-Teufel, LSP-safe for coatings

What is the Shampoo-Teufel? A pH-neutral car shampoo concentrate from TUGA Chemie GmbH (Osnabrück) with a pH of 7.0 to 7.5 and a synergistic surfactant blend of anionic, non-ionic and amphoteric surfactants (each under 5 percent). The glycol-ether solvent 1-methoxy-2-propanol (CAS 107-98-2) boosts cleaning power without alkaline aggression. Phosphonates as chelating agents stop lime-soap build-up in hard water. Distinctive lychee scent, pink colour. Top-tier substrate compatibility — explicitly LSP-safe for carnauba wax, polymer sealants and ceramic coatings. No gloss boosters of its own — the "gloss" comes from deep, pore-clean washing, not from a wax additive.

Shampoo-Teufel® is the pH-neutral maintenance shampoo from TUGA Chemie GmbH, and it positions itself as the LSP-safe all-rounder in the range. LSP stands for "Last Step Product" — the last protective layer you lay down on the clear coat, whether that's carnauba wax, a polymer sealant or a ceramic coating. Where alkaline shampoos (pH > 9) strip a little of that protection with every wash, the Shampoo-Teufel at pH 7.0 to 7.5 is built specifically to leave it untouched.

The formula works with a three-layer surfactant complex. Anionic surfactants handle the primary dirt lift and the foam. Non-ionic surfactants shrug off water hardness and emulsify greasy road grime. Amphoteric surfactants (typically betaines) act as a foam booster and make the mix easier on your skin. Phosphonates bind the calcium and magnesium ions in the wash water, stop insoluble lime soaps from forming and give you a streak-free rinse even in extremely hard water.

The real technical USP is the presence of 1-methoxy-2-propanol (monopropylene glycol methyl ether). This glycol-based solvent couples the water and oil phases and goes after stubborn resins or insect proteins without chemically etching the paint — it closes the cleaning gap that the neutral pH leaves open.

  • The lychee scent is a real differentiator — not a marketing gimmick. Where Sonax and Koch-Chemie go for neutral or citrus scents and premium brands often make a point of smelling "chemical", the TUGA Shampoo-Teufel and its punchy lychee aroma (roughly 80 percent sweet, 20 percent tart) is a calling card in the DACH detailing forums — plenty of detailers know the product blind, just by the smell.
  • No gloss boosters — and that's exactly the point. The product copy talks up a "gloss formula", but a direct question to the manufacturer from the detailing community laid it bare: it actually contains no active gloss boosters (no synthetic polymers, no carnauba wax, no silicone oils). The "gloss" comes purely from washing the paint pore-clean with no residue. On ceramic-coated cars that's a massive plus — gloss additives would throw off the beading of an expensive SiO₂ layer.
  • 10 EUR per litre of concentrate — the value winner in the DACH market. Direct rivals: Koch-Chemie GSF (Glanz-Shampoo Forte, ~12-15 EUR/L concentrate) — a slightly denser foam in lances, but a pH that's harder on aluminium. Sonax XTREME car shampoo (~9-12 EUR/L) — cheaper, but mildly alkaline. GYEON Q²M Bathe (~14-20 EUR/L) — premium boutique. Meguiars Gold Class (~10-13 EUR/L) — comparable, US import. Soft99 Fusso Coat Shampoo (~15-20 EUR/L) — premium with a fluorine-wax additive.

Shampoo-Teufel hero

Detailing1's tip from the shop: What we see day-to-day is a lot of people making the same mistake at the foam lance: they overdose the concentrate chasing that "shaving-foam effect". Doesn't work — this formula is tuned for lubricity (a glide film), not foam density. Pour in more and you just get a watery mix and wasted product. The right foam-lance dose: 50 ml of concentrate to 1 litre of distilled water, run through a compressed-air lance. For a bucket hand-wash: 25 to 30 ml to 10 litres of warm water. We stick to the two-bucket system without fail: one bucket with the shampoo solution, a second with clean water to rinse the microfibre mitt. Wipe in straight lines with the mitt, never in circles — circles leave visible swirl marks ("swirls") in the clear coat that make any premium paint look cheap in the light. On ceramic-coated cars rinse especially well — surfactant residue temporarily knocks back the beading of the SiO₂ layer.

Dilute the concentrate, wash by bucket or foam lance, rinse with clean water.

The standard workflow starts with the dilution. Pre-wash phase with snow-foam from the lance: 50 ml of Shampoo-Teufel concentrate to 1 litre of distilled or low-lime water, applied with a compressed-air or pressure-washer foam lance. Let the foam dwell for 3 to 5 minutes — never let it dry on, and move into the shade if the sun's out. Then rinse it off completely with a pressure jet — most of the road grime goes with it.

For the main hand-wash: 25 to 30 ml of concentrate to 10 litres of warm water in the bucket. Warm water fires up the surfactants better than cold — in winter temperatures, mix the bucket in the garage and start straight away. Work the microfibre wash mitt in straight lines, never in circles — circles leave visible swirl marks ("swirls") in the clear coat.

Rinse the mitt in the clean-water bucket at regular intervals so you don't carry the loosened dirt back onto the paint. The detailing community runs the two-bucket system: one bucket with the shampoo solution, one with clean water to rinse the mitt. That keeps the wash solution clean and the mechanical load on the paint to a minimum.

After the main wash, rinse the car off completely with clean water — never let surfactant residue dry on the surface. If needed, dry with a soft microfibre towel (plush, 800 g/m²) or a compressed-air dryer. Leave the paint half-dry and you risk water spots from mineral residue (especially with hard tap water).

In a pro detailing workflow the Shampoo-Teufel is often the last wash before laying down a fresh paint sealant — the LSP-safe formula makes sure the old sealant isn't damaged while the surface is prepped just right.

Shampoo-Teufel in use

Paint, glass, rubber and plastic yes. Real deep cleaning needs a different cleaner.

The Shampoo-Teufel is approved for all the usual vehicle surfaces. Paint (all 2K clear coats), glass (windscreens, rear and side windows), rubber (door seals, window guides), plastic bumpers, painted wheels, wing-mirror glass and housings. Per the manufacturer there are no documented material exclusions when you use it as intended — that's the broadest substrate compatibility in the TUGA range.

The key limit isn't the material, it's the job: the Shampoo-Teufel is a maintenance shampoo, not a deep cleaner. For baked-on brake dust on wheels, insect crusting on the front bumper, tar spatter, chain grime or engine-oil fallout it's not the right tool. That's where specialised products come in: Alu-Teufel Spezial Grün for wheels, Insekten-Teufel for the front end, Teufels-Reiniger for the engine bay and heavy grime.

On ceramic-coated cars (SiO₂ coatings like Q²M, Cquartz, GTechniq) the Shampoo-Teufel is an ideal maintenance shampoo — the inorganic coating structure stays completely intact. On carnauba-wax sealants it's just as good, because the pH doesn't attack the organic wax layer. Alkaline shampoos (pH > 9), by contrast, would strip part of the wax protection with every wash.

The Shampoo-Teufel is kind to skin (the amphoteric surfactant takes care of that) — hand-washing without gloves is no problem for the private user. In a pro detailing day with ten or more washes, nitrile gloves are still recommended to avoid chronic skin irritation.

Touchscreen displays in modern cockpits, real-leather steering wheels and Alcantara are off-limits — even if the neutral pH would technically allow it, this shampoo is explicitly an exterior wash product, not for the cabin. For interior care there are dedicated products with a lower pH (4.5 to 5.5 for leather).

Shampoo-Teufel result

Spring detailing, pollen season and the carnauba refresh workflow.

Demand for quality maintenance shampoos in the DACH market shows three clear peaks. The first lands in spring detailing between March and May — pollen fallout, salt-water residue and the general winter grime on waxed summer cars. The second peak is in high summer (June to August) — insect pre-wash ahead of the dedicated insect remover, cutting the mechanical load. The third peak is in late autumn and winter — weekly care washes before and after road-salt spells, to keep the corrosion protection going.

Wash weekly and you'll hold the paint sealant for 18 to 24 months — wash only monthly and you'll see the hydrophobics degrade after 9 to 12 months. The pH-neutral Shampoo-Teufel is the key here: every extra wash doesn't hurt the sealant, it keeps it working.

The 1-litre spray bottle at around 8 EUR lasts roughly 33 to 40 washes at weekly use and 25-30 ml per wash — so eight to ten months for one car. In the 5-litre canister at around 26 EUR the price per litre drops to about 5.20 EUR, which is the clear economic winner with frequent use — per wash cycle the concentrate share is 13 to 16 cents, a fraction of the water and energy cost of the pressure-washer.

Off-label, the Shampoo-Teufel works a treat on sensitive household exterior surfaces — photovoltaic panels, painted garden furniture, ceramic patio tables. The manufacturer's call for that is the Kunststoff-Teufel, though, since it's officially cleared for industrial and household use. Pragmatically, on sensitive painted surfaces the pH-neutral Shampoo-Teufel is the gentler choice.

Safety note: the product falls under GHS07 with the hazard statement H319 (causes serious eye irritation). Contains sensitising isothiazolinones (EUH208) — methylisothiazolinone and benzisothiazolinone as preservatives. Safety goggles are recommended with frequent use, especially when mixing the concentrate. The VOC content from the 1-methoxy-2-propanol sits in the single-digit percent range as a concentrate — once diluted in the bucket it's practically negligible. Skin compatibility from the amphoteric surfactants is good, but for detailers in daily pro use, nitrile gloves are recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions about Shampoo-Teufel Car Shampoo

What is Shampoo-Teufel and what is it used for?

Shampoo-Teufel is TUGA Chemie's pH-neutral car shampoo concentrate (pH 7.0-7.5) with a lychee scent. It features a synergistic surfactant blend (anionic+nonionic+amphoteric), 1-methoxy-2-propanol enhances cleaning performance without alkalinity, and phosphonates prevent lime soap. No active gloss enhancers — gloss is created by deep pore cleaning.

How do I use Shampoo-Teufel correctly?

Foam lance: 50 ml concentrate to 1 liter of distilled water. Hand wash: 25-30 ml to 10 L of warm water in a bucket. Work with a microfiber wash mitt in STRAIGHT lines, never in circles (to avoid swirl marks). Two-bucket system: Shampoo + clear water for mitt cleaning. Rinse thoroughly with clear water.

What distinguishes Shampoo-Teufel from Koch-Chemie GSF?

Both are pH-neutral. Shampoo-Teufel ~10 EUR/L, Koch-Chemie GSF (Glanz-Shampoo Forte) ~12-15 EUR/L concentrate — TUGA is more affordable. KC GSF produces denser foam in lances, TUGA has a better lychee scent as a distinguishing feature. Sonax XTREME (~9-12 EUR/L) is slightly alkaline, Meguiars Gold Class (~10-13 EUR/L) US import is comparable. GYEON Q2M Bathe (~14-20 EUR/L) is a premium boutique product.

Is Shampoo-Teufel suitable for ceramic-coated vehicles?

Yes, ideal for SiO2 coatings (Q2M, Cquartz, GTechniq) — the inorganic sealant structure remains completely intact due to the pH-neutral profile. Also good for carnauba wax, because the pH value does not attack the organic wax layer. In contrast, alkaline shampoos (pH > 9) would partially remove the wax protection with each wash.

Is it true that Shampoo-Teufel contains no gloss enhancers?

Yes, a direct manufacturer inquiry confirmed: Shampoo-Teufel contains no active gloss enhancers (no polymers, no carnauba wax, no silicone oils). The "gloss" is created by residue-free, deep pore cleaning of the paint, which restores the natural refractive index. This is a massive advantage for ceramic-coated vehicles — gloss additives would falsify the beading effect.

How economical is Shampoo-Teufel?

A 1-liter container, with 25-30 ml used per wash, is sufficient for about 33-40 washes — eight to ten months for a vehicle with weekly washing. In a 5-liter canister, the price per liter drops to ~5.20 EUR. The concentrate cost per wash cycle is 13-16 cents — a fraction of the water and energy costs of a high-pressure system.

Application of Shampoo-Teufel Car Shampoo

Foam Lance + Two-Bucket System for Scratch-Free Weekly Wash

The standard workflow begins with dilution. Pre-wash phase with snow foam from the foam lance: apply 50 ml of Shampoo-Teufel concentrate to 1 liter of distilled or low-calcium water, using an air-powered or high-pressure foam lance. Let the foam sit for 3 to 5 minutes — never let it dry, work in the shade if in direct sunlight. Then rinse thoroughly with a high-pressure water jet, leaving no residue.

For the main hand wash: 25 to 30 ml of concentrate to 10 liters of warm water in the bucket. Warm water activates the surfactants better than cold water — in cold outdoor temperatures, mix the bucket in the garage and start immediately. Work with a microfiber wash mitt in straight lines, never in circular motions — the latter creates visible swirl marks in the clear coat.

Rinse the wash mitt regularly in the clear water bucket to avoid transferring dissolved dirt back onto the paint. The detailing community works with the two-bucket system: one bucket with shampoo solution, one bucket with clear water for mitt cleaning. This keeps the wash solution clean and minimizes mechanical stress on the paint.

After the main wash, rinse the vehicle thoroughly with clear water, leaving no residue — never let surfactant residues dry on the surface. If necessary, dry with a soft microfiber towel (plush, 800 g/m2) or an air dryer. Those who don't get the paint dry risk water spots from mineral residues.

Notes: Never apply in direct sunlight — surfactants dry as streaks, visible in backlighting. Never apply to hot paint surfaces. For ceramic-coated vehicles, rinse particularly thoroughly — surfactant residues temporarily impair beading. Skin-friendly due to amphoteric surfactants, but nitrile gloves are still recommended for professional detailing with 10+ washes per day. EUH208 due to isothiazolinones — safety goggles recommended when mixing concentrate. Store frost-free, shelf life 24 months after opening.
