On common OEM clearcoats, THE FINISHER RoughCut Step 1 polish pulls grey haze and heavy wash marks out under control, without flooding the panel with dust. After the cut you clear the picture up with FineCut (step 2) and lock the work in with BodyGuard or a waxy finishing stage. That gives you a repeatable workflow from the first polishing pass to protection – fast, logical, safe. Step 1 polish – micro-abrasives, matrix & defect removal

Step 1 polish means: take substance off without fraying the finish. RoughCut’s micro-abrasives bite into defects quickly, spread evenly and “drive out” fine at the end. The load-bearing but non-greasy matrix keeps the pad open for a long time, minimises dry running and lets you use the whole work cycle instead of quitting early. The result: clear, defined paint with clearly reduced scratches and haze – ready to be refined with FineCut. Because the polish leaves no overdone fillers standing, the picture stays stable and doesn’t turn after the first wash.

Automotive workflow – pad choice, pressure & cross-hatch in practice

Automotive workflow starts with a clean base (TropicSnow → MagicShampoo). Start with a medium-hard foam pad; depending on paint hardness you can go firmer or softer. Prime the pad thin, put down 3–4 small drops, spread on a low setting, then work in even cross-hatch passes with moderate pressure until the film gets visibly thin. At the end, ease off pressure and stroke speed a touch to pull the panel “to clarity”. Work edges, fresh paint and sensitive zones gently, and mask off adjacent plastics. Take residues off fully with a dense microfibre. Now comes the step 2 pass with FineCut for gloss, depth and hologram safety; after that seal to your target look (BodyGuard for hydrophobicity, ShineSpeedPolish for waxy saturation or JustPerfect as a later pop booster).

Limits & alternatives – paint hardness, one-step & material choice

Limits & alternatives: very hard clearcoats allow longer sets or bitier pads; on soft/unstable paints a gentle finishing pass reduces the risk of fresh haze. When time is tight and defect removal plus finish in one go is enough, PowerSpeedPolish is the one-step route; for only light marks ShineSpeedPolish does the job. Matte paints/wraps and PPF stay off the table – polishing would change the matte level or the film look. How is RoughCut different from FineCut?

RoughCut is the strong defect removal (step 1). FineCut refines afterwards: it takes out cut haze/holograms and brings clarity and gloss into the picture.

DA or rotary?

A DA gives you the safest, low-hologram result. Only work with a rotary if you’re experienced, and calm the surface afterwards with a short DA finishing pass.

Does RoughCut dust?

With fresh pads, a moderate amount of product and cool panels it stays low-dust. Dust usually comes from overloaded pads, heat or too-long dry runs.

Does RoughCut remove sanding marks?

Yes, light to medium sanding marks and heavy wash swirls get visibly reduced. For the final picture FineCut always follows as step 2.

What comes after RoughCut?

Degreasing the panel isn’t necessary; take residues off fully, then FineCut for gloss/clarity. Finally seal with BodyGuard or set a waxy finish.
