Spray Sealant with Deep Gloss and Slickness

The PerfectFinish Sealant "Pfs" is a ready-to-use polymer-based spray sealant from Koch-Chemie. It provides deep color enhancement, a noticeably soft paint surface, and is approved as a topping over cured ceramic coatings. However, it is not a substitute for a full ceramic coating and is not intended for raw plastic or unpainted rubber.

Spray sealant means: a liquid protective film that, after a short flash-off time, cures into a thin polymer layer. The PerfectFinish Sealant "Pfs" from Koch-Chemie is the professional update of this category. Synthetic polymers instead of quartz, significantly thicker than typical quick detailers, can be applied manually or with a machine. Painted surfaces, painted wheel aluminum, and cured ceramic coatings are approved. Raw plastic, unpainted rubber, and open-pore leather are not.

  • Polymer matrix instead of ceramic. The polymers settle into the micropores of the clear coat and reduce surface tension. Water beads off as round droplets, and dust adheres less. A documented 14-day endurance test on the hood showed only a 10 to 15 percent loss in water beading effect even after insect remover and alkaline pre-wash.
  • Slickness you can feel. The lotion-like consistency leaves a noticeably soft surface and visually deepens the paint color. In direct comparison with pure beading sprays, the droplet roll-off effect is equivalent, but the feel is significantly smoother — audibly quieter when wiped with a microfiber cloth.
  • Machine approved. 1 to 2 sprays onto a Polish & Sealing Foam Pad, eccentric polishing machine at a maximum of 1,000 OPM (orbits per minute), light pressure, slow feed. This turns a hobby spray sealant into a professional tool for defect-free final inspection after polishing.

Practical tip from Detailing1: We often see the same beginner's mistake — spraying directly onto the paint. The emulsion-like consistency creates hazing, streaks, and overspray on glass and rubber. From our experience: apply 1 to 2 sprays onto a short-pile microfiber cloth, then apply in a cross-hatch pattern. First horizontally, then vertically, with overlapping passes.

At 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, the product flashes off slightly after 1 to 3 minutes. Professionals call this "hazing" — the surface becomes visibly duller as the carrier evaporates. Only then polish out streak-free with a clean side of the cloth. For the following 24 hours, water, washing, and moisture should be avoided. The polymers need time to cross-link, otherwise the protective layer will partially break down with the next rain.

Pfs on dry paint in a cross-hatch pattern

The PerfectFinish Sealant works differently from a quick detailer. It requires dry, clean, grease-free paint, otherwise the polymer cross-linking will not occur. The complete workflow from pre-wash to sealing takes about 90 minutes for a mid-range car.

Procedure: touchless pre-wash with snow foam, then manual two-bucket hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo, followed by thorough drying. Ideally with a dryer to prevent residual water from exiting door seams or panel gaps. Anyone who confuses the Pfs with Koch-Chemie's own Hydro Foam Sealant "S0.03" will be disappointed: the S0.03 is a wet sealant applied via foam lance, the Pfs absolutely requires dryness.

Before application, degrease the paint with a panel prep spray — this is the step that hobby users most frequently skip. Only grease-free paint allows the polymers to adhere, otherwise you'll have a nice look for three days and then nothing.

Apply in a cross-hatch pattern, i.e., horizontally and vertically with overlapping passes using a microfiber cloth. Allow to flash off for 1 to 3 minutes, then polish out with a fresh side of the cloth. In warm weather above 22 degrees, the window shortens to 60 to 90 seconds. Then work panel-by-panel instead of over the entire vehicle. Never apply in direct sunlight — the product dries before it can react, leaving visible streaks.

For machine application, Koch-Chemie approves a maximum of 1,000 OPM: minimal pressure, slow feed, extra soft Polish & Sealing Foam Pad. This distributes the product micro-fine and maximizes gloss. For hobby users, this step is only worthwhile for dark paints or directly after a polish — for everyday care, manual cross-hatch application is sufficient.

Important: never apply below 10 degrees, never on heated paint in direct sunlight. Both extremes destroy the polymer cross-linking. In cold weather, the carriers become viscous and flash off unevenly; in heat, the product dries before polishing out. Optimum: 18 to 22 degrees, shade or indoors, calm air without dust stirring.

Durability honest. Splash zones weak.

The Pfs delivers excellent optics and haptics, but it is not a year-round sealant in the sense of a rigorous test. On the hood and roof, the water beading effect lasts several weeks with normal use. On the rear, lower door flanks, and sills, the polymer layer visibly degrades after about 500 kilometers of winter use due to road salt and mechanical splash exposure. This was shown by a German detailing channel in a documented 14-day endurance test.

What it does well: aggressive insect removers and alkaline pre-washes only lose 10 to 15 percent of their hydrophobicity. The chemical resistance is surprisingly high for a pure polymer sealant. What it cannot do: treat unprotected plastics (polypropylene turns white), seal unpainted rubber, touch glass without the risk of streaking. For glass, you need a separate glass sealant — the polymers in Pfs would cause streaks in the field of vision that you can only remove with polishing paste.

A second honest limitation: Pfs is not a beading miracle in terms of maximum droplet shape. Anyone looking for dramatically high water droplets like on a fresh ceramic coating will see softer rolling water here — functionally, it protects just as well, but visually it remains more subtle. The product is optimized for slickness and deep gloss, not for a show effect in a water test.

If you want a year-round protective coating effect, a true ceramic coating is the right choice. It has significantly longer durability and higher mechanical resistance than any polymer spray sealant — but you are switching from a 30-minute spray application to a multi-hour application with a curing tent or garage. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a maintenance topping that provides deep gloss and slickness and can be applied by machine, the PerfectFinish Sealant is the right product.

If you know the predecessor Spray Sealant "S0.02": The Pfs is the denser, slightly more demanding, but more durable further development with a revised polymer structure. Koch-Chemie has thus consciously addressed the main criticism of the S0.02 — its poor durability. In return, polishing out requires a bit more effort because the consistency is thicker.

Pfs for Hobby Detailers and Professional Detailers

The target group is ambitious hobby detailers who want to achieve a clean finish after polishing, and professional detailers who need a final slickness highlight after coating. For pure car wash users without preparation, Pfs is too demanding. The 24-hour curing time does not fit into a quick program.

Yield as an anchor: A 500 ml bottle is sufficient for approximately 20 to 25 car applications (mid-range, approx. 20 ml per car in a cross-hatch pattern via cloth). The 5-liter professional container is worthwhile for about 80 applications per season or in a detailing business. In other words: 500 ml for one to two of your own vehicles per year, 5 liters as soon as you regularly seal customer cars.

In the trends data, searches for "spray sealant" increase noticeably from April. The start of the season is the natural time to apply the annual protective layer after winter wear — and this period is also, from experience, the month of supply bottlenecks, as many detailers reorder at the same time.

In the workflow, the Pfs can be combined well with the Quick & Shine "Qs". Quick Detailer for refreshment between washes, Pfs as a base sealant renewed every 4 to 6 weeks. For regular washing, stick to pH-neutral shampoo to maintain the polymer layer. Alkaline pre-washes are okay, but not weekly.

The trick that no manufacturer's marketing highlights: If you have just applied an expensive ceramic coating like the Ceramic Allround "C0.02", apply Pfs as a sacrificial layer on top for the first few weeks. Fresh ceramic is susceptible to water spots during the curing phase until the quartz network is fully hardened.

The polymers of Pfs prevent limescale from burning into the still-open coating. The spray sealant washes off after 4 to 6 weeks, the ceramic is then fully cured, and the expensive coating underneath remains clean. From our experience: this is the most economical protection stack you can use after a fresh ceramic coating during the detailing summer.

Frequently Asked Questions about PerfectFinish Sealant "Pfs"

What is the Koch-Chemie PerfectFinish Sealant Pfs?

The PerfectFinish Sealant "Pfs" is a ready-to-use spray sealant from Koch-Chemie based on synthetic polymers without quartz. Through polymer cross-linking in the clear coat, it creates a water beading effect and a noticeably soft, high-gloss surface. Suitable for clear coats, painted aluminum rims, and as a topping over cured ceramic coatings.

How is Pfs correctly applied?

Apply 1 to 2 sprays onto a short-pile microfiber cloth, never directly onto the paint. Spread over dry, grease-free paint in a cross-hatch pattern, allow to flash off ("haze") for 1 to 3 minutes, and then buff with a clean side of the cloth. Avoid water for 24 hours afterward. Optimal application at 18 to 22 degrees Celsius in the shade.

What is the difference between Pfs and Spray Sealant S0.02?

Pfs is the further development of its predecessor Spray Sealant "S0.02": it features a denser polymer matrix, longer durability, and optically deeper color enhancement, but requires slightly more demanding buffing. The S0.02 remains easier to apply but degrades faster in everyday use.

Is Pfs suitable for ceramic coatings?

Yes, Pfs is explicitly approved as a topping over cured ceramic coatings. It provides the slickness and deep gloss that ceramics inherently lack due to their composition. Pro tip: use it as a sacrificial layer against water spots in the first 4 to 6 weeks after a fresh Ceramic Allround "C0.02" application.

What happens if Pfs is applied to wet paint?

The polymers cannot cross-link with the clear coat. The product will smear, leave streaks, and wash off with the first rain. Pfs is not a wet sealant – for that, there is the Hydro Foam Sealant "S0.03". Dryness is essential.

How economical is Koch-Chemie Pfs?

A 500 ml bottle is sufficient for approximately 20 to 25 car applications (mid-range vehicle, approx. 20 ml per application via cloth in a cross-hatch pattern). The 5-liter container becomes cost-effective after about 80 applications per season or in a detailing business. Pfs should be renewed every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on exposure.

Application of PerfectFinish Sealant "Pfs"

Step-by-step to a mirror-like high gloss

Preparation is everything. Pre-wash with snow foam, followed by a pH-neutral two-bucket hand wash, then 100 percent dry. Finally, degrease with a panel prep spray – this is the step that determines success or failure. Only grease-free paint allows the polymers to adhere.

Apply 1 to 2 sprays directly onto a short-pile microfiber cloth (Polish & Sealing Towel). Never spray directly onto the paint, as this will create hazing, streaks, and overspray on glass and rubber. Apply in a crosshatch pattern: first horizontally, then vertically with overlapping passes, panel-by-panel.

Allow to flash off for 1 to 3 minutes until the surface appears slightly duller ("haze"). Polish out streak-free with a fresh, clean side of the cloth. In warm weather above 22 degrees, the window shortens to 60 to 90 seconds – then only do one panel at a time.

Machine application with a soft Polish & Sealing Foam Pad at a maximum of 1,000 OPM, light pressure, slow feed. For suitable pads and cloth material, see Workflow Accessories.

Notes: Never apply below 10 degrees, never in direct sunlight or on heated paint. Both will destroy the polymer cross-linking. After application, no water, no washing, no moisture for 24 hours, otherwise the protective layer will break down. Pfs is not suitable for raw plastic (polypropylene turns white), unpainted rubber, or glass – for glass, you need a separate glass sealant. Wear protective gloves, ensure ventilation in enclosed spaces, do not pour residues down the drain. Store frost-free at 5 to 30 degrees, shelf life 24 months after opening.
