What is COLOURLOCK Leather Colour for BMW? — The precisely matched standard leather color enables factory-authentic color refreshes and repairs on BMW leathers, ensuring a consistently uniform, factory-typical finish.
COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (BMW) is a precisely matched standard leather color for the professional repair, refreshing, and recoloring of BMW leather interiors. The colors are based on original BMW color samples and are formulated to blend harmoniously with existing surfaces. Ideal for seat bolsters, steering wheels, armrests, door panels, and all pigmented smooth leathers in the vehicle interior where color accuracy and OEM appearance are crucial.
💡 Practical tip from Detailing1 workshop: In our workshop, we often see the same problem with BMW detailing — color loss on seat bolsters and steering wheels is covered up with cheap care spray that doesn't last four weeks. With Leather Colour (BMW) dabbed onto a microfiber pad in 2–3 thin layers, allowing 30 minutes to dry between layers, then sealed with Top Coat Dull — the result lasts 2–3 years, just like from the factory.
Leather Colour (BMW) is applied in 2–3 thin layers, allowing 30 minutes to dry between layers, and finally sealed with Top Coat. Thin layers last for years; thick layers crack.
Before applying the color, the leather is cleaned with leather cleaner and degreased with Plastic Cleaner or cleaning alcohol. Deep cracks and abrasion marks are smoothed out with Filler or Super Filler and sanded smooth with 1000-grit sanding fleece. The BMW color shades are then dabbed on with a microfiber pad, wiped with a soft brush, or, for large-area repairs, applied with a spray bottle.
After complete drying for at least 4 hours, it is sealed with Top Coat — Dull for a matte original OEM look, Glossy for medium shine, High Gloss for maximum brilliance. One liter of Leather Colour covers approximately 8–10 m² of leather surface; a 250-ml bottle is sufficient for a complete pair of seats including the steering wheel. The same workflow works for all components from the seat cushion to door panels to the center armrest.
Leather Colour (BMW) is exclusively suitable for pigmented smooth leather — the standard in modern automotive applications. Natural leather, aniline leather, and suede react differently and require other COLOURLOCK product lines.
The water-based formulation bonds with the pigment layer of modern automotive leathers, remains elastic, and flexes with the leather's movements without cracking. On natural leather or open-pored aniline leather, the color absorbs unevenly into the fibers and discolors the leather blotchy — here, Leather Fresh (BMW) as a care variant or special aniline lines are used. Suede, velour, and Alcantara are treated with Nubuk Fresh (BMW), which preserves the rough fiber structure instead of gluing it down.
If color accuracy to the original factory color is crucial and the component is to be restored extensively, Leather Colour is the right choice. If only a small area (steering wheel abrasion, a single tear) needs to be repaired, Fluid Leather (BMW) in the 20-ml tube is more economical and precise. If the leather only appears slightly faded, Leather Fresh as a care variant is usually sufficient.
Leather Colour (BMW) is the professional choice for detailers, independent workshops, and ambitious owners who prioritize value retention and original BMW color accuracy over quick care solutions.
For lease returns, used vehicle detailing, and classic car restorations, OEM color accuracy determines the value retention and sales price. The professional 4-step workflow (clean, sand, color, seal) takes 4 hours including drying per component and delivers a result that lasts 2–3 years, just like from the factory. One liter of Leather Colour costs about 30 cents per 100 ml of treated area — workshop calculation including Top Coat is around 12 Euros per component.
For pure care routines without workshop tools, Leather Colour is overkill — there, Leather Fresh (BMW) is sufficient. For spot repairs on the steering wheel or individual tears, Fluid Leather or the Leather Care Sets (BMW) are more economical. However, for those who want to restore entire seat bolsters, steering wheels, or door panels and value original BMW color accuracy, the 1-liter bottle or 250-ml container is indispensable.
Activ red / terracotta red, Alaska grey, Albedo yellow, Amarone, Amethyst / rosewood, Anthracite, Anthracite light, Anthracite / dark grey (Z1), Arizona sun, Atlantis, Aubergine, Bamboo beige, Barbados green / Barbados, Basalt grey, Beige Boston, Beige Dakota, Beige Montana, Beige Nasca, Biscay beige, Blue violet, Brazil, Brown, Blackberry, Buffalo anthracite, Buffalo nutria, Burgundy, Camel, Canberra beige, Caramel, Carnelian red, Casual light grey, Champagne, Chateau / Chateau 63, Clear green, Cohiba brown, Cream, Cream beige / cream beige, Curry, Dark blue, Dark grey, Dark green / English green, Ecru, Ecru light, Ivory white, English malt brown, Evergreen, Fern green, Flannel grey, Fuchsia red, Fun yellow (Z1), Giallo yellow, Gold brown, Grey, Light grey, Grey blue, Greige, Grenadine red, Light beige, Light grey, Imola red, Impala brown, Indigo, Jade grey, Cardinal red, Chestnut light, Chestnut dark, Pebble grey, Classic red, Royal blue, Laguna seca, Lava blue, Lemon Dakota, Lilac, Mahogany, Marine blue, Mexico green, Mint, Modena / Modena natural, Montreal blue, Morello and many more.
COLOURLOCK Leather Colour (BMW) is a water-based, elastic leather standard dye in original BMW shades. It is used for repairing, refreshing, or recolouring pigmented smooth leather in the vehicle interior — seats, steering wheels, armrests, door panels.
First, thoroughly clean and degrease the leather. Fill and sand any damage with Filler. Then, dab, wipe, or spray on thin layers of Leather Colour — 2–3 thin coats are better than one thick one. After complete drying, seal with Top Coat (Dull/Glossy/High Gloss).
Leather Colour is the professional repair dye (1L/250ml, sealable with Top Coat). Leather Fresh is the conditioning colour cream (1L/100ml) for lighter refreshes without extensive preparation. For deep abrasion → Leather Colour; for dull surfaces → Leather Fresh.
The colour shades are based on original BMW factory colour samples. However, for heavily faded leather, we still recommend a colour test in an inconspicuous area, as the original leather darkens or fades over the years.
Three classics: (1) Leather not degreased beforehand — paint does not adhere. (2) Too thick a layer applied — cracks when drying. (3) Top Coat sealing omitted — abrasion resistance less than 6 months. With proper preparation, the result lasts 2–3 years.
Yes, for lasting abrasion resistance. Without Top Coat, the colour on seat bolsters and steering wheels will wear off within a few weeks. Top Coat Dull = matte-original (OEM-look), Glossy = medium gloss, High Gloss = high gloss.
Care instructions for Leather Standard Colour (BMW):
Leather Colour (BMW) is exclusively suitable for pigmented smooth leather – the standard in modern automotive applications. Natural leather, aniline leather, and suede react differently and require different COLOURLOCK product lines.
The water-based formulation bonds with the pigment layer of modern automotive leathers, remains elastic, and accommodates leather movements without cracking. With natural leather or open-pore aniline leather, the colour penetrates the fibres unevenly and stains the leather – in these cases, Leather Fresh (BMW) as a care variant or special aniline lines are used. Suede, velour, and Alcantara are treated with Nubuk Fresh (BMW), which preserves the rough fibre structure instead of sticking it together.
If colour accuracy to the original factory colour is crucial and the component is to be extensively restored, Leather Colour is the right choice. If only a small area (steering wheel abrasion, individual tear) needs to be repaired, Fluid Leather (BMW) in the 20 ml tube is more economical and precise. If the leather only appears slightly faded, Leather Fresh as a care variant is usually sufficient.
