In a comparison of eight insulated bottles the Rambler came first after twelve hours and was still better than the test average after 24 — measured with the closed screw cap, though, not the straw. Empty, the 18 oz weighs 510 g and the 26 oz 560 g — about three times an uninsulated plastic bottle of the same size. For a rucksack on a long day out that is a real argument against it. The 18 oz measures 76 mm across, the 26 oz 86 mm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eCar cup holders usually run between 64 and 89 mm, with a common sweet spot around 80 mm. So the 18 oz drops into most holders and the 26 oz into very few — YETI itself points out that Rambler bottles can be too big for many cup holders, and in a test of 17 bottles that was the main gripe about the 26 oz. Neither fits a bike cage: the standard there is about 73 mm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat gives you a simple rule. \u003cstrong\u003eIf the bottle is going to sit next to you — cabin, drive out, commute, downtime at the track — take the 18 oz at 532 ml.\u003c\/strong\u003e If it lives in the boot, on the folding table by the open tailgate or in the cool box, take the 26 oz at 769 ml.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eRun both and one size covers driver and passenger while the other covers the day. How long the ice lasts comes down less to the bottle than to where it stands: in the shade or next to a \u003ca href=\"\/en\/products\/yeti-thin-ice-kuehlakku-flach\"\u003eflat ice pack\u003c\/a\u003e in a box it holds many times longer than on the parcel shelf in the sun. Mehr Einsatz braucht sie nicht.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eDas Ritual beginnt am Abend vorher. Flasche voll, in den Kühlschrank, morgens raus und in den Halter. Auf der Anfahrt im Dunkeln merkst du sie kaum, und im Fußraum fällt eine Sache auf, die auf keinem Datenblatt steht: Die Flasche hat eine abgeflachte Seite. Sie rollt nicht bei jeder Kurve von links nach rechts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAuf dem Platz übernimmt dieselbe Fläche die zweite Aufgabe. Auf einer Motorhaube, einer schrägen Heckklappe oder einem wackeligen Klapptisch bleibt sie stehen, statt loszulaufen. Wer schon einmal hinter einer Flasche hergesprungen ist, die über eine frisch polierte Haube unterwegs war, weiß, was das wert ist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eDer eigentliche Unterschied zeigt sich mit Handschuhen an. Einen Schraubdeckel bekommst du damit auf, aber nicht elegant. Den Halm klappst du mit dem Daumen hoch, auch mit Handschuh, auch mit fettigen Fingern, und du fasst dabei nichts an, was danach an den Mund kommt. Da gehört ein Tuch oder ein Untersetzer drunter. Er ist die Stelle, die du beim Tether- und beim Chug-Deckel nicht hast: ein Rohr, das innen gebürstet werden will, dazu ein Stopper und die Dichtringe. YETI nennt den Deckel im geschlossenen Zustand auslaufsicher, das ist die Herstellerangabe. In US-Kundenbewertungen tauchen aber Berichte auf, dass ein runder Dichtring aus dem Deckel rutscht und es dann beim Trinken tropft, und einzelne Nutzer melden nach rund zwei Monaten einen zähen Durchfluss, der sich durch einmaliges Runter- und Hochklappen des Halms wieder gab. Kein Serienfehler, aber ein Grund, keine Packsicherheit zu versprechen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eUnd dann gibt es noch die Geschmacksfrage. Ein breiter Halm liefert viel pro Zug, aber ein paar Leute finden das Saugen schlicht anstrengend und bleiben lieber beim Ausguss. Advnture warf sie auf Fels, ohne Dellen und ohne Risse. Ein Test über zwei Wochen meldet sehr wenige Kratzer, sonst nichts. Halm herausziehen, mit einer schmalen Bürste innen durchgehen, Dichtring aus dem Deckel nehmen, beide Seiten abspülen, alles getrennt trocknen lassen. Nur den kleinen Dichtring am Ventil lässt du drin, den zieht YETI ausdrücklich nicht vor.
